How to Buy Japanese Adult Videos on FANZA While Living in Japan

Short answer: you do not need a Japanese credit card. You can pay with cash at any convenience store. This guide explains every step, written for foreign residents in Japan.

1. FANZA only works inside Japan

FANZA is the adult division of DMM, one of the largest digital stores in Japan. It is licensed, legal, and completely separate from pirate sites.

The service is restricted to Japan. If you open it from another country you get a message saying the service is not available in your region. This is a licensing restriction, not a technical accident.

What this means for you: if you live in Japan, everything works normally. If you travel abroad, your purchases stay in your account but streaming stops until you are back on a Japanese connection.

2. You do not need a Japanese credit card

This is the part almost nobody explains in English. FANZA supports more than nineteen payment routes. They fall into three groups.

RouteNeeds a card?Good for
Credit card, directYesFastest, if your card is accepted
DMM PointsNoCash, e-money, carrier billing
DMM Prepaid CardNoBuying without any account details

Paying with cash at a convenience store

This is the simplest route if you do not have a Japanese card.

  1. Open the DMM Points charge page and choose convenience store payment.
  2. You receive a payment number.
  3. Take it to the register at a convenience store and pay in cash.
  4. The points appear in your account, and you spend them on FANZA.

The receipt shows only a generic convenience store payment line. Nothing on the paper identifies what you bought.

If your foreign card is rejected

Some cards issued outside Japan are declined. There is no published list, so the only way to know is to try registering the card. If it fails, use the points route above. It works regardless of where your card was issued, because you are paying cash.

Card brand support differs by section of the store. Some parts of FANZA accept only certain brands. If one brand fails, the points route always works.

3. Check the sample before you buy

Every title on FANZA has a free sample video. Amateur titles in particular have very little written description, so the sample is the only reliable way to judge a title before paying.

Our video list plays the sample when you tap the thumbnail, so you can go through many titles quickly without opening each product page.

4. Typical prices

Amateur titles usually run between 300 and 900 yen. Runtime is commonly 30 to 90 minutes. Discounts of up to 50 percent appear regularly, and the list can be sorted by discount rate.

5. Common questions

Is this legal?

Yes. FANZA licenses content from the studios that produce it. It is a normal Japanese online store that happens to sell adult media.

Will it show up on a family phone bill?

Carrier billing is added to your mobile bill and will appear there. Convenience store cash payment leaves nothing on any bill.

Do I need Japanese to use it?

The store is in Japanese. Machine translation in your browser handles it well enough for browsing and checkout. Our list is also in Japanese, but it is mostly images, so it works without reading.

Can I watch what I bought after leaving Japan?

Streaming is blocked outside Japan. Your account and purchases remain, but playback requires a Japanese connection.
